The concert was dedicated to the brave police and firefighters of September 11th and appropriately began and ended with his song “America” and the raising and lowering of the American Flag over the stage. Diamond, and his band, now with the addition of a string quartet and a brass ensemble, played seven tunes from his newly produced album “Three Chord Opera”. Also played were old favorites such as, “Holly Holy”, “Cracklin’ Rosie”, “I Am, I Said”, “Beautiful Noise”, “Play Me”, “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show”, “If You Know What I Mean”, “Shiloh”, and “Soolaimon”. Stating that Neil had been with most of his band for the past 25 years, he played early the early career hits of “Cherry, Cherry”, “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon”, and “Solitary Man”. “Captain Sunshine” was dedicated to long time friend and band member Vince Charles who was lost this year to a short illness. With vocalist, Linda Press, Diamond swooned the audience to “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” while himself playing the piano to more the more obscure tunes of “Yes I Will” and “Lady Magdelane” stating that these songs were written about his own life. Neil also entertained the house with three encores of “Sweet Caroline”.
